CODE OF CONDUCT

Be nice and respectful to each other

Atheists of Utah is dedicated to providing a harassment-free environment for everyone in our group, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion.

We expect members and guests to follow this code of conduct at all sponsored events, meetings, and online encounters.

Yes means yes; no means no; and maybe means no. Please take no for an answer for any request or activity. You are encouraged to ask for unequivocal consent for all activities during events. No touching other people without asking. This includes hands on knees, backs, shoulders, and hugs (ask first!). There are folks who do not like to be touched and will respect and like you more if you respect their personal space.

Atheists of Utah does not tolerate any kind of harassment of members, guests, or volunteers. Harassment includes, but is not limited to:

  • Offensive comments related to:

    • Gender

    • Sexual orientation

    • Disability

    • Physical appearance

    • Race/ethnicity

    • Religion

  • Sexual images in public spaces

  • Deliberate intimidation

  • Stalking of any kind

  • Sustained disruption of talks or other events

  • Inappropriate physical contact

  • Unwelcome sexual attention or remarks

We have many different folks in our group with different sexualities, genders, races, ethnicities, abilities, and beliefs —just to name a few. Blatant instances of racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, other stereotyping, or harmful behaviors are prohibited and should be reported to a Board member immediately.

Atheists of Utah understands that human interaction can be complex and confusing. Please give each other the benefit of explaining behavior you find offensive or unwelcome. However, members who are asked to stop any prohibited conduct are expected to comply immediately. We take all reports of harassment very seriously.

The consequences for failing to comply with our Code of Conduct may range from ejection from the event, meeting, or online presence up to and including permanent revocation of Atheists of Utah membership, and is at the sole discretion of the Board of Trustees.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of the Board immediately or email us at board@atheistsofutah.org.
