The atheist community has come a long way in the last decade, but there's still a lot to be done, especially in this unpredictable political climate. We are looking for four intelligent, compassionate, self-motivated, and hard-working individuals to join us as members on the board of trustees this year. If you would like to join us, please send a declaration of your candidacy to no later than than 11:59 pm MT on July 8. You must be a current member in good standing in order to run for a position on the board of trustees.
While the work we do is rewarding and fun, being a board member for a non-profit organization is a lot more work than you may think. You should be willing to spend AT LEAST 10-15 hours per week on your duties as a member of the board. A few preferred skills of board members include experience with planning, organizing, and innovating, familiarity with Utah politics, and knowledge of government statutes and laws as they apply to non-profit organizations.
As a board member, there are five positions you could potentially hold - President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, or Outreach Director. Every position has its own responsibilities that primarily relate to political activism, marketing, public relations, social event planning, volunteerism, outreach, fundraising, and grant writing. If you have experience with any of those topics, you could be a perfect fit! Board members are also required to participate in one professional development training through Utah Nonprofit Association per year.
Candidates will be expected to give a short speech and take a few questions from the membership at the Annual Members Meeting. Candidates are also encouraged to attend a board meeting prior to the election to get a feel for what may be expected of them.
Current board members are happy to answer any questions prospective candidates may have. We look forward to working with you!
